A Record of the Appointment of Guardianship to Kinner Newcomb of the Town of Plattsburgh Esquire - Recorded May 4th, 1810.
The People of the State of Newyork to Kinner Newcomb of the Town of Plattsburgh in the county Clinton and state of Newyork Send Greeting -
Whereas Gideon Sheldon deceased of the Town of Essex in the county of Essex and State aforesaid died Testate and was seized of real estate in the county of Essex and Whereas Reuben Reynolds and Rhoda Reynolds his wife, late Rhode Sheldon wife of the said Gideon deceased, have let forth that Deborah Sheldon and Gideon Sheldon children and heirs of the said Gideon Sheldon deceased and Rhoda Reynolds are minors under the age of twenty one years the said Deborah Sheldon of the age of nine years and the said Gideon Sheldon of the age of five years and they are without a Guardian an din some measure unprotected and are possessed of some personal estate and real Estate which requires the care and Attention of a Guardian in the Premises and Whereas the said Reuben Reynolds and Rhoda Reynolds, his wife have requested that the said Kinner Newcomb be appointed as the Guardian of the said Deborah and Gideon during their minority - Agreeable to the law of the State of Newyork Passed the fifth day of April In the year of our Lord one thousand and Eight hundred and Ten.
And Whereas the said Kinner Newcomb did on the fourth day of May in the year aforesaid Agree to Accept of the Guardianship of the said Deborah and Gideon during their minority. Now Therefore I the said Surrogate by virtue of the Power reposed in me as Surrogate of the said County of Essex do hereby Appoint the said Kinner Newcomb Guardian to the said Deborah and Gideon during their minority with full power & Authority to exerdise the same According to the laws of the State of Newyork: Witness James McCrea Esquire Surrogate of the said County the fourth day of May in the thirty fourth year of our Independence. - James McCrea Surrogate.
